About Hawk The Vote

Our Story

Hawk the Vote is an award-winning lab at Roger Williams University. Hawk the Vote at RWU won the 2012 National Winner Mark of Excellence Award for Best Online Reporting, Small Colleges. The HawktheVote lab is part of a course in the journalism major, Digital Journalism 1 where aspiring journalists learn digital chops that are necessary post college and throughout any journalists career. Each year, the students and professor of the course put on two productions and live stream the video: a student run debate against the College Democrats and College Republicans of RWU and a live stream and full coverage of the presidential election. Students not only learn the digital aspect of journalism but also how to cover politics in the media.
